Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. . . . a Man After God's Own Heart

"Non-violent civil disobedience is the primary and necessary means of effecting social and political change." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

My kids and I returned a little while ago from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, entitled "Affirming America's Promise". It was absolutely wonderful. The keynote speaker, Ed Hearn eloquently, relayed that although Dr. King had imperfections and vices against which he struggled (as we all do), he desired to follow God and to be His vessel - no matter where that might lead him. My hope is that we will teach this truth to our children, and they will teach it to their children, and so on.

I find it exciting that Dr. King modeled his plan of non-violent civil disobedience on that of Mahatma Gandhi and even more so on the life of Jesus Christ. Amazing, isn't it? Each of the individuals speaking or performing today made sure to point out that God's grace has carried us to this point in America and will continue to lead us as we work together to continue to improve this great country of ours.

Thank you, Jefferson County NAACP, for putting together a truly memorable experience for my three children . . . as well as their mother.
